Porter County Sheriff says Jail Pod Should Open on Budget
November 6, 2013 — The Porter County Sheriff says jail renovations will not exceed the Porter County Government budget. Sheriff David Lain says concerns have been raised that improvements to a third jail pod to relieve overcrowding could exceed available funds, but the Porter County Sheriff says they are not over budget.
Sheriff David Lain says, they are actually just where they are expected in the renovation costs. Lain says he and the commissioners generated over $1-million dollars for the Pod’s opening by refinancing the bonds on the jail a couple of years ago. He says, “It’s actually come in right about where we had expected. I have always used an outside figure at about $150,000, and that’s exactly in the ballpark it ended up.”
Sheriff Lain says, the repairs that are needed should be relatively easy. He says a lot of the equipment in the B-block is functional, and they only have to replace items they removed to use in other pods.
