Porter County was believed to have had 9 heroin related deaths in 2012. The county has recorded 8 heroin-related deaths already this month, nearly all of them in the last two weeks. LaPorte County has seen a similar spike. Steve Walsh interviewed Porter County Coroner Chuck Harris Thursday morning (3-14-13) about the deaths.

During Regionally Speaking, Bob Taylor, head of the Porter County Drug Unit, heroin-related arrests tripled in 2012 in both Lake and Porter County. Police also believe they have traced at least one of the sources of the drug to Dolton, Illinois.
