August 7, 2013 — The Recycling and Waste Reduction District of Porter County is once again holding another household hazardous waste collection this Saturday from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. at Portage High School on U.S. 6.
Porter County residents can safely dispose of old pesticides, gasoline, compact fluorescent lamps and other products that contain toxic, corrosive, ignitable or reactive ingredients. NIRPC will also hand out, while supplies last, a new environmentally-friendly gas can to residents who bring in old gas cans for disposal at the collection.
Explosives, asbestos, grill propane cylinders, containers larger than 30 gallons, controlled substances and radioactive materials such as smoke detectors, will not be accepted.
The last 2013 Porter County household hazardous waste collection is scheduled for Oct. 26th at the old Pines School.
