October 13, 2014 — Porter County officials announced Monday the area leads the state in catching slacking parents.
“The Porter County Child Support Office is currently the top office in the State of Indiana among the 14 largest counties. Porter County is first in current child support collections, past due support collections and paternity establishments,” announced Porter County Prosecuting Attorney Brian Gensel.
“Porter County Child Support has collected over $10 million dollars so far this year and is on track to collect over $14 million by year end. We are consistently above the State and Federal averages in child support collections,” said Gensel. “Since I took office in 2007, child support collections have increased 25%. My office is dedicated to making sure Porter County children receive the support owed to them.”
The Porter County Child Support Office has also recently upgraded its technology to better serve the community in providing assistance in the collection of child support. Kiosks were recently installed in the office lobby at 15 N. Franklin to create a faster and easier way to provide information. Shortly, the office will be launching a web-based portal which will enable customers to contact the office from their homes or anywhere with an internet connection.
Not all cases where child support is owed are handled by the Prosecutor’s Office. Parents who wish to utilize these services may do so by coming into the office at 15 N. Franklin, Ste. 100, Valparaiso or by going to www.porterco.org.
