Portage Student Arrested for Shootings Threat
October 10, 2013 — Portage Police are reminding parents to talk with their children about the importance of reporting threats after a Portage High School student was arrested for talking about taking a gun to school and shooting students.
Police say a student reported that a fellow sophomore was talking about bringing a gun to school and shooting students he said were “arrogant and self-righteous.”
The student was not found in possession of any gun, but told authorities he had access to one at home. He was arrested yesterday for intimidation and taken to the juvenile detention center.
A search of the student’s bedroom did not locate a gun. Police say his parents, who were cooperative, said they own a gun that is under lock and key, and their child had no access to it.
