Police Blitz Set to Target Seat Belt Safety
May 5, 2014 — Beginning Friday, May 9th, area safety officials are making sure motorists buckle up. The Valparaiso Police Department will be participating in a state and nationwide blitz focusing on drivers and passengers who fail to properly wear a seat belt.
The blitz will continue through the Memorial Day holiday period and is supported by thousands of law enforcement agencies and traffic safety advocates across the country. In Indiana, more than 250 law enforcement agencies will conduct special patrols, day and night, to identify and ticket unrestrained motorists. The effort will conclude on June 1st.
The Valparaiso Police Department will be working extra patrols during this blitz searching for motorists and passengers that are unrestrained in their vehicles. The Indiana Criminal Justice Institute and Governor’s Council on Impaired & Dangerous Driving are sponsoring the extra patrols during the blitz period.
