Playoff spots could be wrapped up
(AP) — The final three postseason major league baseball spots could be wrapped up by day’s end.
Milwaukee needs to win this afternoon at Cincinnati to keep its faint wild card hopes alive. Even if they Brewers do win, San Francisco can clinch the final NL wild card with a home win against San Diego tonight.
Seattle is teetering on the brink of elimination in the AL wildcard chase. The Mariners are three games out with four to go heading into their afternoon game at Toronto. If the Mariners lose, that would put Oakland and Kansas City in position to clinch the wild cards with victories tonight. The Athletics are at Texas, while Kansas City visits the White Sox.
The Orioles can gain some ground on the idle Angels in the race for the best record in the American League. Baltimore visits the Yankees trailing LA by 2 1-2 games.
Washington can take two steps closer to clinching the best record in the National League when it hosts the Mets for a day-night doubleheader. The Nationals hold a two-game lead over the Dodgers for the league’s top spot. LA has the day off.
