Platini won’t back Blatter FIFA re-election
SAO PAULO (AP) — Michel Platini has made it clear he will not support Sepp Blatter if FIFA’s president stands for re-election.
Blatter is expected to formally declare his candidacy for a fifth term, but European confederation president Platini says the time has come for a change.
In comments published Thursday by sports daily L’Equipe, and verified by UEFA, Platini says “I don’t support him … I supported him in 1998 but I don’t support him in 2014.”
Platini is considering whether to stand for FIFA presidency in next year’s election and says will make his decision on Aug. 28 — the day of the Champions League draw in Monaco.
