Pirates beat the Cards

(AP) — Adam Wainwright of the Cardinals failed to win his 16th game of the season as the Cards fell to the Pirates in Pittsburgh 3-1. Wainwright, who dips to 15-9, gave up all three runs in six innings. The winner was Jeff Locke who allowed the lone run for St. Louis on six hits. He is now 6-3. Each team remains alive in the National League playoff picture.

Clayton Kershaw of the Dodgers gets his chance to become baseball’s first 16 game winner of the season tonight. The National League West leading Dodgers are on the road for a game with the Diamondbacks.

The tightest race in baseball is the American League West as the Angels top the Athletics by just a game. Tonight the Angels are home to the Marlins while the A’s are visiting Houston.

The AL Central is tight as Kansas City leads Detroit by just 1 ½ games. The Royals continue their home stand with a game against the Twins tonight while the Tigers are home to the Yankees.

Washington’s Nationals have the biggest lead in any division, 7 ½ games over Atlanta in the National League East. This evening the Nats are in Philadelphia while the Braves are in New York to play the Mets.

The rest of tonight’s schedule has Tampa Bay at Baltimore, the Jays home to the Red Sox, Chicago’s Cubs at Cincinnati, the White Sox hosting Cleveland, Milwaukee at San Diego and Colorado at San Francisco.
