BALTIMORE (AP) — The Orioles and Royals square off in the opening game of the ALCS tonight in Baltimore. It’s a meeting of franchises that have been strangers to the league championship series. Baltimore is making its first appearance since 1997. KC is in the postseason for the first time in 29 years.

The teams generate the bulk of their offense in different ways. The Orioles led the majors with 211 home runs and were last in stolen bases with 44. The Royals stole 153 bases to top the majors but were last in the bigs with 95 homers. Kansas City was the only team that did not hit 100 home runs during the regular season.

The pitching matchup pits Kansas City’s James Shields against right-hander Chris Tillman. Shields is 11-7 lifetime against Baltimore, including 2-0 this season.
