Lakeshore News has learned that an official decision on the fate of the 2013 Gary South Shore Air Show is expected to be made on Monday.  That’s when  the Department of Defense is to issue a decision on the military jet teams will be grounded until further notice because of the federal budget cuts.  The Associated Press says the Golden Knights parachute team, one of several teams scheduled to be in the Gary show, already cancelled the rest of their appearances this year.  The F-22 Raptor and the MV-22 Osprey were also scheduled to be headlining the show, and they, too, may not fly because of sequestration.  This would’ve been the first appearance for both the Raptor and the Osprey in Gary.

South Shore Convention and Visitors Authority president & CEO Speros Batistatos says air show organizers will meet as soon as the Department of Defense issues an official grounding notice.

Details on the cancellations and what’s planned for the CVA for the rest of the summer in place of the Air Show are anticipated to come at a Tuesday morning news conference.
