Officer Schultz Visitation, Funeral Set In Merrillville
September 11, 2014 — The Associated Press and Lakeshore Public Media — Visitation for a slain Merrillville police officer is scheduled for Sunday, with his funeral the following day.
Squad cars from Indiana and Illinois joined a procession yesterday as a hearse brought the body of Patrolman Nick Schultz from Chicago to a funeral home in his hometown of Lowell. Blue ribbons lined Lowell’s streets and dozens of officers saluted as Schultz’s body was removed from the hearse.
Schultz’s visitation is set for 2-7 p.m. Sunday at the Star Plaza Theatre in Merrillville. His funeral will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the 3,400-seat theater.
The 24-year-old officer died Sunday, two days after a man wearing body armor shot him during an apparent ambush. Officials say that man then fatally shot himself.
