NWI Schools Rank Well In 2014 Niche.com Survey
December 16, 2014 — Lakeshore Public Media staff — Northwest Indiana K-12 schools are ranked well in Niche.com’s annual report.
Munster schools ranked 7th in the state, Crown Point at number-33, Lake Central Schools at 51st, Gary’s 21st Century Charter School at 53rd, Merrillville Schools at 62nd and Highland Schools at number-87.
Porter County Schools did well in the Indiana rankings of the annual Top 100 Niche.com survey with Valparaiso at 31st, Morgan Township at 33rd, Chesterton at 40th and Wheeler High School at number-69. Other region schools on the list are Hebron at 37th.
Niche.com Vice President Mark Tressler says the survey methodology includes academics, student culture and diversity and even responses from student-parent surveys. “We asked about whether a child liked their school, their friends and even the athletic program. We tried to come up a more holistic viewpoint than just the data, which is pretty objective,” Tressler told Lakeshore Public Radio. Academics made up 50% of the grade.
Tressler says they’ve already received great response to the rankings report from northwest Indiana school districts. “Some schools are sending out messages and announcing the results in their buildings.”
