NWI Gasoline Prices On The Rise
April 1, 2014 —
Gas prices continued to rise in March and both Illinois and Indiana were among the states with the largest price increases over the previous month.
AAA Chicago spokesperson Beth Moser says drivers in northwest Indiana are currently paying on average $3.79 for a gallon of regular unleaded. These prices reflect a rise of 29 cents from just a month ago and are also the highest daily average in Indiana since July 2013.
Mosher says two refineries in Illinois and one in northern Indiana will be undergoing seasonal maintenance, which may cause a disruption in prices. But she says these refineries should complete their maintenance by the end of April, which should allow gasoline supply to build before the summer driving season.
Mosher says it’s frustrating for motorists to see the same seasonal hikes this spring, but fortunately gas is not nearly as expensive as in recent years.
