No Charges Against McCowan’s Father — For Now
Porter County prosecutors decided Friday not to file criminal charges against the father of convicted murderer Dustin McCowan for any alleged involvement in his son’s crime. But Porter County Sheriff’s Department spokesman Sgt. Larry LaFlower said the decision would be reviewed if any new information surfaced to investigators.
After Dustin was convicted of slaying his ex-girlfriend Amanda Bach of Portage in September 2011, police told Lakeshore News that they were looking into the possibility that Crown Point Police Officer Joseph Elliott McCowan aided his son in attempting to cover up the crime. The elder McCowan denied under oath that he was involved in any cover-up.
Police never have found the gun used in the killing or Bach’s cellphone. Dustin McCowan is serving a 60-year prison sentence for his murder conviction.
