NIRPC Board Holds Public Transit Hearing

July 3, 2013 — The two sides of a dispute over transportation planning in the region gave compromise another chance, during a Tuesday morning meeting in Portage.  A committee of the Northwestern Indiana Regional Planning  Commission (NIRPC) met with representatives of “Everybody Counts” to talk about NIRPC’s long-term transit plan.  “Everybody Counts” advocates for people with disabilities.  The group accused NIRPC of ignoring the needs of the poor and minorities and the requirements of the Americans with Disabilities Act in the agency’s future plans.  The Lakeshore’s Denise Turner attended the meeting and talked with “Everybody Counts” and with board member  George VanTil, who said some progress was made…
