New Ways To Fund The South Shore
In Northwest Indiana, supporters of expanding the areas commuter rail service into Chicago have watched entire political careers pass by. A committee of the Indiana General Assembly is meeting now to decide whether to recommend new ways to fund the South Shore, as well as the sensitive issue of whether Lake County should have more representation on the Northern Indiana Commuter Transportation District board. For decades supporters have touted the train’s benefits to air quality and the economy. Now, they are looking at another potential benefit – a way to reverse the area’s aging population.
