New stadium is open for business
SANTA CLARA, Calif. (AP) — The San Francisco 49ers now call Santa Clara, California, home. The team opened its new Levi’s Stadium, which was built at a cost of $1.2 billion. It will hold 68,500 for Niners’ games and will be expanded to 75,000 for Super Bowl 50 in January of 2016.
The 49ers have also announced the signing of left tackle Joe Staley to a two-year contract extension through the 2019 season. Staley has earned Pro Bowl honors the past three seasons and is primarily responsible for protecting Colin Kaepernick’s blindside.
