New Schererville Menards Store Due To Open Soon
A two-story home improvement store could open on U.S. 41 in Schererville by the end of this month, on the site of what used to be Circle GMC. The big sign that the new Menards store opening is imminent are the dozens of semi-trucks parked outside, ready to stock the new store.
Menards will close its existing store and reopen on the 13-acre site a few blocks south. Schererville town building commissioner Don Moffett tells Lakeshore News that the company’s already found an occupant for the old building after it closes.
The new Menards will be more than twice the size of the existing one: 200-thousand square-feet. An escalator for people as well as carts and materials will link the two floors. The bottom floor would look similar to the existing Schererville store, but with convenience and grocery foods in the rear. Upstairs would offer a large selection of appliances, as well as a showroom featuring bathroom and kitchen set-ups.
A new right-turn lane off U.S. 41 must be finished before the new store can open to customers. The project has been in the works for more than two years.
