Navy Vice Admiral From NWI Ends Decades-Long Career

A Hammond native who is a Navy command officer is leaving active duty after 35 years of honorable service.

Vice Admiral Gerald Beaman retired on June 3rd and turned over command of the Navy’s Third Fleet at a ceremony on board the aircraft carrier USS Ronald Reagan near San Diego.

Beaman graduated from Marquette University with a B.S. degree in Business Administration and was commissioned through the NROTC Program in 1974.  He was designated a naval flight officer the following year.  He had assumed command of U.S. 3rd Fleet in April 2011.

U-S Pacific Fleet Commander, Admiral Cecil Haney, presented Beaman with the Distinguished Service Medal recognizing him for his exceptional meritorious service.
