National Guard Unit Heading For Afghanistan

September 17, 2013 — (AP)  — About 130 members of a regional  Indiana National Guard unit are heading for a year-long deployment to Afghanistan.

The 1638th Transportation Company based in Remington holds a departure ceremony Tuesday at Tri-County High School.  National Guard Captain Jessica Halladay says the unit will be hauling equipment and supplies while providing security for convoys.

Captain Halladay says the soldiers will train for a month at Fort Hood, Texas before departing for Afghanistan.  This will be the third deployment to Iraq or Afghanistan for some members of the Remington unit.
