Muddy Chase Leads To Arrest
October 27, 2014 — HOBART (AP) — Police arrested a mud-covered man when he left a cornfield, about four hours after investigators believe he tried to run over an officer directing traffic at a busy apple orchard.
Hobart police say an officer dove out of the way yesterday afternoon before he was hit near County Line Orchard. Other officers chased the car until it drove onto a farm and became stuck in mud. Police Chief Richard Zormier told the “Times” that officers used search dogs and a Lake County sheriff’s helicopter in their attempts to find the man.
Chief Zormier says the man walked from the cornstalks as darkness was about to fall. Charges are pending, and his name’s being withheld until those charges are filed.
