More Gary Courts Moved Due To Courthouse Fire
September 1, 2014 — The Associated Press — Lake County court officials relocated two more courts to other buildings following an electrical fire that damaged part of the Gary courthouse annex.
A civil division court and a family court were both housed in Gary have been moved to separate courtrooms in other Lake County courts buildings in Hammond and Crown Point.
Four courts have now been relocated to other buildings because of the fire that caused severe damage to several pieces of the courthouse’s electrical system. Lake County Commissioners President Mike Repay told the “Times” that a key component, a switch gear, is on order but there is a backlog at its maker and supplier. The Gary courthouse will be closed until further notice, through at least this week.
