Mitch Barloga of NIRPC on NWI Bike Trails
Northwest Indiana’s network of hiking and biking trails is growing by 15 to 20 miles per year and last month officials broke ground on a new segment of the Dunes Kankakee Trail in Porter County. The 125 miles of trails in Lake, Porter and LaPorte counties have become increasingly popular for area joggers, hikers and bicyclists.
Mitch Barloga of the Northwestern Indiana Regional Planning Commission oversees that network. It’s his job to find the funding to maintain and expand the growing maze of outdoor pathways available to Indiana residents and their guests. He talked with Lakeshore News Anchor Jodi Juhl about a region transportation network that is a hidden gem in the region.
