Meetings To See Whether Youth Coaches Need Concussion Training

Indianapolis – A state legislative committee is looking at whether Indiana’s youth coaches should be required to undergo training to help them spot signs of concussions in student-athletes.

The Commission on Education is scheduled to take testimony Friday afternoon on the feasibility of concussion training for coaches and the risks of sudden cardiac arrest in student-athletes.

A bill passed this year by state lawmakers created a study committee to investigate those issues and report its findings back to legislators before next year’s session.

State Sen. Travis Holdman sponsored that bill. He’s scheduled a Friday news conference with former NFL and Purdue player Rosevelt Colvin to discuss concussions among student athletes and youth sports leagues.
