McCowan In Court For Sentencing
Convicted murderer Dustin McCowan returns to court in Valparaiso this afternoon for sentencing. He could receive between 45 and 65 years for the Sept. 16, 2011, slaying of 19-year-old Amanda Bach of Portage. Search teams found her body along railroad tracks less than 300 yards from McCowan’s Union Township home. Security in Porter Superior Court will reportedly be tight for the sentencing hearing. Amanda Bach’s father, Bill Bach, said after the jury convicted McCowan that he hoped for the maximum sentence, but pointed out that Dustin still will be a young man when he’s released. Defense attorney John Vouga said he plans to appeal.
