Mayor of tornado-damaged town headed to Wrigley
WASHINGTON, Ill. (AP) — The mayor of a central Illinois town hit hard by a tornado last November will throw out the first pitch Saturday at the Cubs-Cardinals game in Chicago.
And the longtime Cardinal fan plans to be a good guest at Wrigley Field.
Washington Mayor Gary Manier told the Journal Star in Peoria that he’s thankful to the Cubs for inviting him and recognizing his city.
Manier says he’ll wear Washington Community High School orange rather than Cardinal red on Saturday.
The tornado that tore across Washington on Nov. 17 killed one person and destroyed or damaged hundreds of buildings.
