Matinee baseball and more
(AP) — Four day games are on the schedule in baseball today. In the earliest start, the Reds are playing host to the Red Sox while Minnesota is at Houston, the Giants are entertaining the White Sox and, in the first of two games in Cleveland, the Indians are facing the Diamondbacks. The Indians and DBacks are playing back to back games because last night’s outing was called because of rain. On the mound for the Indians is Trevor Bauer, who started his big league career with Arizona but was traded to Cleveland
In the marquee games of the night, the Royals are looking to get back on the winning track. Their eight-game winning streak was snapped last night by the Athletics and tonight those clubs play the third of four games in Kansas City. The division leaders split the first two games with the Royals winning Monday night and the A’s last night. KC starts the day with a half-game lead over the Tigers in the AL Central while the A’s lead the Angels by 3 ½ in the AL West. The Tigers’ series with Pittsburgh shifts to Detroit tonight while the Angels are home to the Phillies.
The third of four games between the Dodgers and Braves in Atlanta is this evening. The visiting Dodgers won the first two games and in doing so have seen their lead in the National League West grow to six games over the Giants. The Braves meanwhile have lost 11 of their last 13 games to fall five games back of the Nationals in the NL East. Washington remains in New York for a game tonight against the Mets.
The remaining games on the Wednesday schedule have the Padres hosting the Rockies, the Yankees at Baltimore, Miami home to the Cardinals, Milwaukee in Chicago to play the Cubs, Texas entertaining Tampa Bay and Toronto at Seattle.
