July 18, 2013 — The United States Attorney in Hammond says a suspect in two bank robbery cases faces federal charges today.

U.S. Attorney David Capp says 31-year-old Jeremy David Evans of Glendale Heights, Illinois is charged with bank robberies of TCF Bank in Munster, Indiana and 5/3 Bank in Hammond, Indiana last August. He says the charges followed an investigation of the crimes by the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

Local police thought that the suspect who attempted to rob the TCF Bank inside Jewel in Munster was the same person who robbed a 5/3 Bank in Hammond 20 minutes later.

At the time, August 8, 2012, Munster police who responded to the TCF Bank said the suspect presented a teller with a note demanding money and saying he had a gun. Police said the teller told the man that the bank had not yet opened and there was no money in the teller drawers, so the man walked away and fled the area before police arrived.
