LOCAL OFFICALS SAY ILLIANA WILL BRING LOW WAGE JOBS
As planning moves forward for the proposed Illiana Expressway, local officials are speaking out about the potential effects the toll road could have on the region.
State Representative Rick Niemeyer, Lake County Councilman Eldon Strong and officials from the Town of Lowell spoke about the proposed highway at a meeting tonight in Lowell. They say the highway will benefit Illinois more than Indiana and they believe it will create only temporary or low wage jobs.
The Indiana and Illinois departments of transportation are currently conducting environmental studies related to the proposed highway. Construction is expected to begin in 2015.
