Local Lawmakers Attempt To Reach Tax Freeze Deal…On Live Radio
Regionally Speaking dedicated the hour to local lawmakers in the waning days of the General Assembly. Lawmakers were trying to reach a final deal on language to lift the property tax freeze put in place by state lawmakers in 2007.
Sen. Earline Rogers, D-Gary, pressed Rep. Hal Slager, R-Schererville, on whether he would accept the House version of the bill, rather than a compromised being floated in a conference committee, which would spell out how Lake County should spend an income tax. Slager said he would, setting up a potential deal.
“We might have this deal over the phone,” Rogers said.
Discussion also includes Rep. Charlie Brown, D-Gary, and a discussion on casino legislation and the mechanics of that would allow Griffith to leave Calumet Township.
