Local Ivy Tech Staffers Laid Off In Region Merger
July 5, 2013 — Ivy Tech Community College took a first step in closing a $68-million budget deficit by laying off several top administrators at its Northwest and North Central regional campuses. The layoffs could save $1.1-million in salaries and benefits. Laid off from the Northwest campus were Forrest Thon, the executive director of Corporate College … marketing and communications executive director Karen Williams … and Keith Howard, the vice chancellor for student affairs.
Ivy Tech also said director of finance Dawn Thostesen and David Gidcum, the director of computer and information services… no longer work for the college.
The Northwest region includes campuses in East Chicago, Gary, Valparaiso and Michigan City. Ivy Tech officials announced last April it was merging the Northwest region with the North Central region in South Bend as a way to save money.
