As the end of 2013 looms so does the opportunity to make charitable contributions that can be deducted on 2013 taxes.  In order for that to happen any check or credit card donation must be made by December 31, 2013.  A pledge that is not paid before year’s end will not qualify.

The Office of the Indiana Attorney General reminds Hoosiers wishing to give to charities to always contribute by check rather than cash, don’t be pressured into making contributions to any organization, watch out for charities with similar sounding names, beware of callers who claim endorsement by the state or thanking you for a pledge you didn’t make, and remember that you can always cancel a pledge prior to making a contribution.

Tax deductions can only be given for contributions made to IRS-qualified organizations.  The Internal Revenue Service provides a list of those organizations on its website, http://www.irs.gov.
