INDIANAPOLIS – Legislators recommended that the state’s Bureau of Motor Vehicles give specialty license plates to the Lincoln Boyhood Drama Association and the 500 Festival to help the organizations raise money.

The Roads and Transportation Interim Study Committee met on Tuesday to review what the two groups’ applications. Originally, the committee planned to review seven but the several of the applications were incomplete.

Rep. Ed Soliday, R-Valparaiso, the chairman of the committee, said the application process is a new one that gives legislators a say in who gets the plates.

“The intent was to make sure we had a fair system,” said Soliday about the new process.

The committee will meet again in October 2014 to review more applicants.
