December 4, 2013 — A recent arrest in LaPorteCounty has helped police recover dozens of items stolen from homes in northern LaPorte.  Today, LaPorte County Fairgrounds hosted potential owners who were invited in to reclaim their property and perhaps some peace of mind.

Nick Rife of LaPorte County was arrested last week on charges of burglary.  A subsequent search of Rife’s home uncovered dozens of items believed to be stolen.

Lt. Andrew Hynek is the lead investigator on the case.  He says now, LaPorte County Sheriff’s police are searching for the owners of the recovered belongings ranging from jewelry and luggage to DVDs and televisions.  Today residents who have recently filed burglary reports were invited to the LaPorte County Fairgrounds to search for their items.

The arrest happened November 26, and potential victims were notified the next day.

Police say this situation should serve as a reminder to those receiving electronics this holiday season that recording and registering serial numbers is always a good idea.
