LaPorte Officials Remind July Brings More Patrols
June 30, 2014 — As the Fourth of July holiday approaches, more lights will illuminate region neighborhoods — and not just fireworks.
To ensure safe travel, officers and deputies of the La Porte County DUI Taskforce will continue and increase the amount of Driving While Impaired enforcement patrols.
The upcoming patrols by the Task Force members will focus on ensuring that adults, children of La Porte County, along with traveling motorists through the county, remain safe during the long holiday weekend. Additional patrols will be added the first week of July, specifically from July 3rd until the 6th. Patrols will continue throughout the month targeting specific dates, times and locations.
“Many adults and children will be traveling on the roadways during this busy holiday weekend, enjoying themselves and their festivities. The holidays are a time for celebration, not tragedy. Please help make the roadways of La Porte County safe by never driving after drinking alcoholic beverages”, said Sergeant Harlan Williams, LaPorte County DUI Taskforce Commander.
The following suggestions are recommended tips to make the roadways safe during the upcoming holiday weekend.
• Plan ahead. If you will be consuming alcoholic beverages, do not plan on driving. Designate a sober driver.
• If you are impaired, find alternate transportation home. Utilize a taxi service, public transportation, or call a sober friend or family member for a ride.
• Be responsible. If someone you know is intoxicated do not let them operate a vehicle.
• If you see a possible intoxicated driver on the roadway, contact 911.
