LaPorte County Officials Explore Toll Road Return To State
October 20, 2014 — Network Indiana — LaPorte County officials have hired outside help to determine whether or not Indiana can revoke its lease on the Indiana Toll Road and put it back under state control.
The County Commissioners hired attorney Shaw Friedman. He said he believes that the state could spend about $2.4 billion to cover the debt of lease operator ITR Concession Company. The firm recently filed for bankruptcy, listing $6 billion worth of debt.
The LaPorte County Commissioners have said that if control of the Toll Road isn‘t taken back by the state — they would like to see revenue-sharing agreements when a deal is restructured.
