Lake Station Signs Agreement On New Water Plant

August 22, 2014 — The city of Lake Station signed a two-year agreement with Aqua America of Pennsylvania to operate and manage the city’s new water treatment plant.

Mayor Keith Soderquist says Aqua America’s Indiana operation will be paid $144-thousand each year of the contract.  The agreement keeps the water treatment plant in Lake Station hands, rather than going to a private company like Indiana-American Water.

Soderquist says the new plant has enough capacity to pump an extra half-million gallons of water a day that can be sold to other communities for additional revenue, or to west side citizens who now get service from Indiana-American Water through New Chicago.

Contractors finished work on the new facility this past spring.
