Lake County Sheriffs Candidates Square Off At IUN

Tuesday the Democratic and Republicans candidates for Lake County sherriff explained their positions at a forum at Indiana University Northwest, It was sponsored by the School of Public and Environmental Affairs and the Center for Urban and Regional Excellence.

It was a packed house at the Burgalend Auditorium at the IUN Campus in Gary. Each candidate was given a 2 minute opening. They were allowed up to 2 minutes to respond to each question, though they often did not take the full two minutes.

This is probably the most high profile of local races for the May 8 primary. The Sheriff can serve up to two consecutive terms. John Buncich is in his first term.

The Candidates for  forum include: Democrats: Gary Public Safety Director Richard Ligon,Lake County officer Oscar Martinez, Jr., and incumbent John Buncich, The Republicans are East Chicago Police Officer John Ramos, Jr., and Lake County  Sheriff’s Police Detective Dan Bursac.
