Lake County Monitoring Rainwater Drainage

Share Tweet Email

Lake County Surveyor George Van Til says his crews are monitoring waterways for flooding from overnight rain on saturated ground. Van Til says he expects most streams that flow generally north-south between the Little Calumet and the Kankakee Rivers to be full or nearly full of water during the course of a storm that could continue overnight.
As County Surveyor, Van Til coordinates proactive county efforts to manage water flows with advance planning. He says he thinks most areas in Lake County will be able to handle this storm’s rainwater, with a “couple of dozen” isolated locations of concern.
Van Til says the Kankakee River should be able to hold the storm runoff water, as should the Little Calumet River due to its large flow capacity.
