April 10, 2014 — Lakeshore Public Media report —

A federal court judge listened to arguments from both sides Thursday morning and then granted a Munster couple’s request for Indiana recognition of their same-sex out-of-state marriage.  Niki Quasney and Amy Sandler were married in Massachusetts.

Judge Richard Young granted an emergency restraining order, which will last 28 days, at which time another hearing will take place.

Quasney is suffering from terminal ovarian cancer and wanted the couple’s marriage to be recognized in Indiana while she is still alive.  Quasney’s and Sandler’s case is one of five in Young’s court challenging the ban.
