Judge Issues 80-Year Sentence For Lucky Mart Murder

March 5, 2014 — A 22-year-old Merrillville man who murdered a 43-year-old convenience store clerk two years ago will serve an 80-year sentence, most of it in prison.

A Lake County judge told Jeremy Blue at his sentencing hearing Tuesday that the vicious slaying, captured by surveillance cameras, was “profoundly disturbing for everyone to watch” and caused great suffering for Judi Simpson-Beaver’s family.  Judge Clarence Miller called the crime “an execution-murder.”

Blue apologized to the victim’s family but he denied committing the crime.  Two other men already admitted their involvement in the slaying at Lucky Mart.  A jury convicted Blue of murder last November.
