Johnson leads Hoosiers past Texas Southern 83-64
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. (AP) — Robert Johnson scored 17 of his 21 points in the first half, and James Blackmon Jr. scored all but two of his 19 in the second half Monday night, leading Indiana to an 83-64 victory over Texas Southern.
The Hoosiers (2-0) dominated their second straight Southwestern Athletic Conference foe, leading for the final 33 1/2 minutes.
The Tigers (0-2) were led by Tonnie Collier with 16 points and Deverell Biggs with 14 — not quite enough to give former Hoosiers coach Mike Davis a win in his first trip back to Assembly Hall.
But this game wasn’t quite as easy as Indiana’s opener.
The Hoosiers led just 20-18 midway through the first half before using a 21-5 run to take a 41-23 lead.
The defending SWAC champs cut the deficit to 44-29 at halftime and got as close as 54-44 early in the second half. They couldn’t get any closer.
