FLORHAM PARK, N.J. (AP) — The New York Jets will start the new year with a new coach and new general manager. Owner Woody Johnson has decided to start fresh with the dismissal of coach Rex Ryan and general manager John Idzik.

The Jets finished the 2014 season on Sunday with a record of 4-12. In six seasons in charge of the tam, Ryan had a record of 50-52, including 4-2 in post season play. Idzik lasted just two seasons after replacing the fired Mike Tannenbaum in 2013.

ATLANTA (AP) — The Atlanta Falcons are also looking for a new man to run things as coach Mike Smith has been canned. The firing came a day after the Falcons were blown out by Carolina 34-3 in a game that decided the NFC South championship. Smith coached the team for seven seasons and took it to the playoffs four times. Smith ends his tenure with the Falcons with a record of 66-46 following this year’s 6-10 finish.
