Jacobs’ Funeral Today at Statehouse

The Indiana Governor’s Office is hosting a Statehouse visitation and funeral service today for former Congressman Andy Jacobs, Jr. Governor Mike Pence and Congressman Andre Carson plan to share remarks at the funeral service at the Statehouse in Indianapolis.
A family visitation at the Capitol should occur after the casket’s arrival at 10 a.m. Public visitation in the Statehouse Rotunda follows, until noon when the funeral begins.
Members of the public attending may enter on the east and west sides of the Statehouse. The handicapped accessible entrance is located at the west entrance on Robert D. Orr Plaza.
The funeral will be streamed live at www.webinar.in.gov/indiana.
Pence has ordered state buildings in Marion County to lower their flags to half-staff in honor of former U.S. Rep. Andrew Jacobs Jr., who died Saturday at age 81.
The governor’s order requests that the flags be flown at half-staff from morning to sunset today. Pence is also asking Indianapolis businesses and residents to lower their flags to honor Jacobs.
He represented Indianapolis in Congress from 1965-73 and from 1975-1997 and was instrumental in writing the 1965 Voting Rights Act.
