August 15, 2014 — The State Budget Committee gave its approval yesterday for Ivy Tech Community College of Indiana to lease the Purdue Academic Learning Center in Crown Point, to expand the Gary campus’ health care division, which includes nursing, physical therapy, respiratory care, and health-related studies.

The expansion allows for Ivy Tech to relocate into a larger space for its associate degree programs.  Additional space will be available for other general education purposes like science labs, as well as space for the Corporate College and the Society of Innovators.

Ivy Tech will lease, with an option to buy, the building from the Purdue Research Foundation for just over $602-thousand a year.  Purdue Calumet moved out of the facility along Broadway because of declining enrollment.

State Representative Shelli VanDenburgh  of Crown Point says this will be Ivy Tech’s first facility in the southern portion of Lake County.   Community and Methodist Hospitals and the Community Hospital MRI Center are all located nearby.
