IUN Tamarack Hall Project Funding Approved
July 11, 2013 — The State Budget Committee gave the go-ahead Wednesday for the $45-million Tamarack Hall rebuilding project on the I.U. Northwest campus in Gary.
The new, 22-thousand-square foot building will be shared by I.U. Northwest and Ivy Tech Community College’s Northwest campus, in an effort to encourage Ivy Tech students to finish their bachelor’s degrees at I.U. Northwest. The plan for both institutions to share Tamarack Hall will save the state $8-million.
Tamarack Hall was the first building on the Gary campus. It was torn down after it was damaged by floodwater in 2008, 50 years after its cornerstone was laid.
State Senator Karen Tallian (D-Portage) and the other four members of the Budget Committee unanimously approved the Tamarack Hall project funding request.
