IU Northwest Student Seeks Dental Supplies For Needy
August 7, 2013 — After suffering his own dental emergency, which became a very serious medial emergency, an Indiana University Northwest student is now on a mission to make sure needy kids have the tools to take care of their oral health needs.
Chris Sicinski says that about a year ago he had a simple cavity that required a root canal procedure. But the healing process went wrong. It was that experience and the pain he went through that promoted Sicinski to collect supplies for kids who don’t have easy access to oral care products. Sicinski says he didn’t want anyone else to go through what he went thru.
He said he did research and learned that about 75-percent of Americans suffer from some type of oral disease and most of those people are from impoverished communities. Now with help from a local dentist who is donating space to store the items collected and Indiana State Police, who is helping distribute the items, Sicinski is collecting as much tooth paste, toothbrushes, mouthwash and dental floss as he can get his hands on. He will continue to collect supplies until December 20th.
Those wishing to support Sicinski’s mission can send supplies to: Indiana University Northwest, c/o Ernest Talarico, Jr., Ph.D., Dunes Medical/Education Building, Room 3028A, 3400 Broadway, Gary, IN 46408. For more information, call (219) 981-4356.
