IU Fires 2 Defensive Coaches
Jan. 10, 2014 – BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Indiana head football coach Kevin Wilson announced Friday that defensive coordinator Doug Mallory and defensive line coach Jon Fabris will not return to the coaching staff for the 2014 season.
“Doug and Jon are solid coaches and good men,” Wilson said. “We appreciate everything they have done for IU Football and wish them both the very best moving forward. We are excited about the future as we continue to build our program in a positive way.”
Indiana allowed an average of 527.9 yards and 38.8 points last season to rank 123rd and 115th, respectively, out of 125 Football Bowl Subdivision teams. The average of 560.2 yards allowed in conference games was the worst ever in the Big Ten.
Indiana has ranked last in the Big Ten in total defense in each of Mallory’s three seasons as coordinator, including 106th nationally (463.5) in 2012 and 109th (458.7) in 2011.
Indiana allowed an average of 514.8 yards in Big Ten play in 2012, meaning Mallory presided over two of the three defenses in conference history that gave up more than 500 yards per game.
