ISP Part of 11 Tons of Drug Removal
Indiana State Police say they took about a ton of drugs out of circulation in one day at the end of April. ISP participated in the federal Drug Enforcement Administration’s (DEA) sixth Drug Take Back Event April 27th, which collected more than 11 tons of drugs nationwide.
The event invited Hoosiers to leave unwanted prescription drugs at one of about two dozen police collection sites in the state. ISP says it contributed 1,875 pounds of drugs to the national total. The ISP says it has partnered with the DEA in each Drug Take Back event, starting in 2010, to reduce improper disposal of unwanted prescription drugs by providing an alternative to flushing them down toilets, placing them in regular trash or leaving them in the home and subject to unintended or illegal use.
